The time has come — it is urgently necessary to repair and restore the Church of St. Sergiy on Koh Chang and the Dormition Monastery in Ratchaburi. Yet, neither on Koh Chang nor at the monastery can we even begin, for we have no funds.

This year, thanks to your participation, we somehow managed to repair St. Nicholas Cathedral in Bangkok, the Church of All Saints in Pattaya, and the Church of St. Vladimir in Chiang Mai — but now we can no longer keep up.

The reasons for the current condition of the churches, which urgently require repair, are simple: constant high humidity, the small number of permanent parishioners, the lack of practical experience among the local clergy, and, I must admit, our own lukewarmness.

The beautiful Church of St. Sergiy, with its well-arranged church grounds and living quarters, requires immediate care and attention.

And no one but us — those who live on this land or are somehow connected with Thailand — will take this responsibility.

Over the years, I have lost the habit of writing in a polished way or of citing eloquent passages from the Holy Scriptures to inspire donations for repairs. Our own sense of responsibility should itself move us to care for the temples of God.

Of course, whether to help or not is the free choice of each person — and we will still love you no less and always pray for you. Yet, as the saying goes, “there is no harm in asking,” and so I ask wherever and from whomever I can.

A preliminary estimate has already been made:
— For the Church of St. Sergiy, about 800,000 baht (25,000 USD) is needed;
— For the monastery, about 600,000 baht (20,000 USD) (including the replacement of nearly all air conditioners).

Donations may be made in any convenient way — either through our clergy or directly to the account of the Orthodox Church in Thailand Foundation.
